Automation: miners that look after themselves

FARMGOD can now react on its own when a miner stops hashing, runs hot, falls behind or loses a board or a fan: reboot, sleep or a lower power mode, and back to normal once things look right again.

Most of what goes wrong with a miner at three in the morning has a boring fix: reboot it, slow it down, or put it to sleep before it overheats. Automation does exactly that, by rules you set, and writes down what it did.

Start simple: zero hashrate

Under Automation in the settings, one rule covers the most common case. A miner that is online but reports no hashrate for a number of minutes you choose (3 to 10) gets a reboot, or is put to sleep if you prefer.

Two settings keep it calm:

  • Enable Automation is the master switch. Off means nothing fires, whatever the rules say.
  • The startup grace period (5 to 30 minutes) is how long a miner gets after a power-up or a reboot before Automation starts to watch it. A miner that is still booting is not a miner with a problem.

Then go further: rules per model and firmware

An S21 Pro on stock firmware and an S19k Pro on VNish don't run at the same temperatures, and they can't do the same things. So behind "Configure Model / FW Profiles", every combination of model and firmware found at your location gets a profile of its own, with four rules. Each rule is switched on by itself.

  • Thermal protection. When temperature and fan load are both over your limits for long enough, the miner goes to the low power mode, or to sleep. The recovery half of the rule brings it back once both have stayed under the recovery limits.
  • Underperformance. Hashrate stays under a percentage of what the model should deliver.
  • Missing hashboard. Fewer boards are working than the model has.
  • Missing fan. Fewer fans are turning than the model has.

For every rule you choose how many minutes the condition has to last, and what happens then.

What it will not do

  • It only offers what the miner can really do. The actions in a profile are the ones that model and firmware support, and nothing else.
  • No one-way streets. Sleep is only on offer where the miner can be woken up again.
  • Nothing happens unseen. Every step Automation takes is noted on the miner.

Where it is

Settings, then Automation. On a Private VPS it is included; on FARMGOD Cloud it is part of Cloud PRO. The pricing section has the details.
